This payroll calendar is a flexible and comprehensive resource for all pay periods for each client, tailored to their unique locations and work weeks.

Our payroll calendar allows all our clients to fully track all processing week numbers and federal holidays, so that payroll can be planned precisely – from a biweekly pay schedule to a semimonthly schedule, or whichever frequency our clients may need depending on how they organize their work weeks.

Here’s a convenient run-down of the sort of flexibility that exists for Mercan’s clients when we approach your unique payroll creation:

In any given year, how many pay periods are there?

In each year there can be as many as fifty-two pay periods. Alternatively, there can be as few as twelve. The number of pay periods is determined by the employer unless the state in which the employees or workplace are – has a specific payday requirement.

In all cases where companies are deciding how many pay periods to have each year – it’s important to balance the cost of running payroll with the financial needs of staff.

Pay by the week

Where pay is weekly – 52 pay periods are created each year. This sort of payment schedule is maintained by employers that hire hourly workers.

Biweekly pay

On a biweekly pay schedule, employees receive twenty-six paychecks each year. In some cases, depending on variations in the calendar, there only twenty-four pay periods each year. Employees that are paid by the hour or salary can both receive biweekly pay.

Semimonthly pay

With semimonthly pay, clients can choose any date to process payroll. For example, where there are two cycles, from the 1st of the month to the 15th, and from the 16th to the 30th/31st. Semimonthly comprises twenty-four pay periods and is mostly use for salaried employees.

Monthly pay

With monthly pay, there are twelve pay periods, and these can be delivered on any date the client prefer.
